At least 11 Palestinians were killed in the first few hours of Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza early Friday, Israeli military sources said. Meanwhile, Israel announced in the morning that a soldier had been killed, its first fatality since a Gaza ground assault was launched the previous evening, and another two soldiers were wounded. Quoting an Israeli military commander in Gaza, an official in Jerusalem said, eleven Palestinians were killed in the Hamas-controlled areas in Gaza strip in the latest military offensive. Admitting the casualties, Palestinian health officials in Gaza said it was not clear if Hamas militants were among the casualties. There was no immediate breakdown of how many were civilians, including women and children, according to Reuters.
