11 quit race to back alliance candidates in Sylhet

SYLHET, Jan 21: As 11 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, a total of 32 aspirants are now contesting six parliamentary seats across Sylhet's 13 upazilas.
Tanvir Hossain Sajib, assistant commissioner (Information) at the Sylhet District Administration, provided this information about the contesting candidates on Tuesday.The candidates who withdrew the nominations are as follows:
In Sylhet-1 (Sadar): Two candidates left the election race. They are Ehteshamul Haque of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and Tajul Islam Hasan of Khelafat Majlis, both of whom withdrew in favour of the alliance candidate.
In Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath, Balaganj, and Osmaninagar ): Two candidates who withdrew their nominations are Jaman Ahmed Siddiqui of Gono Adhikar Parishad and Md Abdul Hannan of Jamaat-e-Islami.
In Sylhet-3 (South Surma, Fenchuganj, and Balaganj)): Three candidates who withdrew their nominations are Dilwar Hossain of Khelafat Majlis, Maulana Lokman Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami, who left the seat in favour of 10-party alliance candidate, Khilafat Majlis leader Hafiz Maulana Musleh Uddin Raju, and Nurul Huda Junaid of NCP.
In Sylhet-4 (Gowainghat, Jaintiapur, and Companiganj): Two candidates who pulled out of the race are Ali Hasan of Khelafat Majlis, and Rashed-Ul Alam of NCP.
Hafiz Md. Anwar Hossain Khan pulled out in Sylhet-5 Kanaighat in support of the 10-party alliance candidate.
Sylhet-6 (Golapganj and Beanibazar ) saw withdrawal of BNP nominated candidate Faisal Ahmed Chowdhury.
