110 injured in clashes

Our Correspondent GOPALGANJ, Nov 14: At least 50 villagers were injured, 15 of them critically and 20 shops, one passenger bus and a police van were ransacked in a clash between two village groups at Kathi Bazar of Kathi Union under Gopalganj Sadar, on Saturday, over a carom board game. The clash left 50 villagers injured, 15 of them critically, including a police constable. They were admitted to Gopalganj sadar hospital in critical condition. Two separate cases were filed with Gopalganj P.S in this connection. Police arrested 34 persons from both groups. UNB reports : At least 40 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over land dispute in Jamalganj upazila in Sunamganj on Monday. Police said, there was a dispute between the people of Chanbari and Moulvinagar villages over the ownership of a land for long. Following the enmity both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other at about 9 am, leaving 40 people injured. Of the injured, Mahmudur, 22, Makbul, 65, Shamsul Haque, 60 and Abu Leiss, 50 were rushed to upazila health complex. On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. BSS reports: Twenty people were injured as two rival groups engaged in a clash over a disputed land at Baktarpur village under Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district Sunday. Of the injured, Moqsud Mia, 30, Noor Miah, 35, Nabid Ali, 17, and Abdal Mia, 35, were admitted to upazila health complex in critical conditions. The rests were released after providing first aid, police and hospital sources said. The clash erupted when one of the groups began cultivating the land defying objection from the other. Officer-in-Charge of Bahubal Thana Saiduzzaman confirmed the incident and said no case was filed in this connection.
