111 Nilphamari houses gutted

At least 111 houses of 310 families were gutted by a devastating fire which broke out at Hazipara village in Nilphamari Sadar upazila on Tuesday midnight. Fire service officials and locals said the fire originated from a stove of a kitchen at the house of one Ketai Miah at the village around midnight and it soon spread engulfing 110 more houses. On information, two firefighting units from Nilphamari and Syedpur towns rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame after three hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people. One cattle was burnt to death in the fire. Tree people sustained burn injuries while they tried to douse the blaze. The extent of losses from the fire was estimated at over Tk 5 million, said fire service sources, according to UNB.
