113 BNP, Jamaat, Shibir men held in Ctg, Khulna, Jessore

CHITTAGONG, Jan 12 (Agencies): Chittagong district police in overnight drives arrested 42 activists of BNP, Jamaat and Shibir from seven upazilas, including Satkania, Sitakunda and Lohagara, Sunday night.
Acting on secret information, Satkania, Sitakunda, Patiya, Hathazari, Rangunia, Boalkhali and Lohagara thana police arrested them from different areas in the upazilas, said Naimul Hasan, Additional
Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district.
He said the arrested include 10 accused in different cases, 22 Jamaat, six Shibir and four BNP men.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested a leader of city unit of Jamaat from city's Laldighi area Monday afternoon.
The arrested was identified as Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, 36, a Rukon of the Chittagong city unit of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Mujibur, a former president of Government Haji Mohammad Mohsin College unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, around 3:00pm, said Mohammad Nezam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station.
He was wanted in several cases filed in connection with acts of sabotage in the city, the OC added.
Khulna city and district police last night arrested 67 people, including 10 BNP and Jamaat men, in connection with different cases and on charges of subversive activities.
The police arrested the BNP and Jamaat men from the city and district during the blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people from the Shahpur area in Joypurhat district town early Monday in connection with the removal of fishplates from the rail tracks of Khulna-Rajshahi and Rajshahi-Dhaka routes in Sadar Upazila Thursday, reports UNB.
RAB officials said on secret information, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo around 3:30 am.
