11th Nat'l Statistical Conf'ce begins at DU

11th National Statistical Conference began at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Hall of Dhaka University (DU) Friday.
Bangladesh Statistical Association (BSA) organised the conference titled "strategy for development of statistics: role of the statistician."
A total of 34 research papers will be presented in five technical sessions of the 2-day conference.
The discussants opined that national strategy for development of statistics is a modern approach in integrating the activities of national statistics organisation (NSO) with the mainstream activities of the planning process so that welfare is maximised with same resources.
They also gave many recommendations including revival of statistics division and re-organisation of the Bangladesh Beauro of Statistics (BSS) with adequate manpower and technological support etc.
"The theme is timely and appropriate because development of statistics and reorganisation of the statistical agencies are the demand of the day," said BSA secretary general Abdur Rashid Sikder.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique emphasised statistics in poverty detecting and disaster management.
BSA president Professor Dr Quazi Md Mafizur Rahman and vice-president Professor Dr Md Abdul Quddus also spoke at the conference.
