12 Bangladeshis injured in Libyan robbers attack

Armed robbers attacked a camp of Bangladesh nationals in Ajdabiya, a Libyan city 850-kilometre (km) off its capital Tripoli, leaving a dozen Bangladeshis wounded with bullets, said a Bangladeshi diplomat on Tuesday. “Four of the injured expatriate Bangladeshis had to undergo immediate surgeries to get the bullets out,” Counsellor (Labour) at Bangladesh Mission for Libya, now shifted to Tunisia, ASM Ashraful Islam has said. He told UNB that the shooting incident took place on Friday. The robbers besieged the Ajdabiya camp in Libya where some 100 Bangladeshis were living, he said through Viber communication. The Bangladeshis tried to resist the robbers and even caught two of them red-handed, Ashraful added. In retaliation, the official said, the bandits came back with increased force and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving at least 12 Bangladeshis wounded. The miscreants also took away 16000 dinars, 12 mobile phone sets, he said adding that the rest of the Bangladeshis are out of danger. The identities of the injured could not be known yet as the official could not be contacted further.
