12 cattle markets in Ctg for Eid-ul-Azha

CHATTOGRAM, June 15: Chattogram District Administration has given permission to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) for setting up nine temporary cattle markets for the upcoming Eid-Ul-Azha in Chattogram.
There are three regular cattle markets in Bibirhat, Sagarika and Postarpar areas of the port city. There were three temporary cattle markets in the city last year.
Earlier on May 11, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) sought permission from the district administration for 23 temporary cattle markets in Chattogram. However, the district administration has given permission to CCC for setting up nine temporary cattle markets this year.
The nine temporary cattle markets are Khejur Tola Ground, East Hussain Ahamed Para TSP Ground, Muslimabad Ground and CIP Jashim's ground at ward number 40, Karnaphuly ground at ward number 16, TK Group Ground at Butter Fly Park area and Karnaphuly Bridge side area, Wajedia Point area at Panchlaish, CDA Sands Ground at Outer Ring Road in the port city.
Sources said Chattogram district administration has given the approval to set up temporary cattle markets in the city under 14 conditions. This approval was given subject to the opinion of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
Chief revenue officer of CCC Mohammad Nazrul Islam said, "The district administration had approved of nine temporary cattle markets. The cattle markets will be leased for a short time and will sit 10 days before Eid-ul-Azha." He also said the tender has already been called for the temporary cattle markets. The tender will be opened on June 18.
The cattle markets should be set up following some guidelines such as the temporary cattle markets should be set up at the convenient places of at least 100 yards away from the main road so that the traffic on the main road is not disrupted under any circumstances. No sacrificial animals should be kept on the streets and no poles should be placed outside the boundaries of the cattle market.
Besides, there should be a one-way movement for buyers and sellers in the temporary cattle markets with the separate entrance and exit points. Special measures should be taken to avoid gathering and maintain hygiene rules in the cattle markets.
The leaseholders of the cattle market have to recruit volunteers with their own adequate security arrangements. Veterinarians should be at all cattle markets to verify the health of the animals.
The lessees of the cattle markets need to clean the areas by their own arrangements. The leaseholders have to install CCTV cameras at important places in the cattle market. While transporting animals on the road, the leaseholders or their designated representatives shall not force cattle traders to change the route of any cattle-laden vehicle or to take the cattle to their markets.
