12 children die of pneumonia in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Dec 31 (UNB): Pneumonia that broke out in the district due to the severe cold claimed 12 lives of children in last two weeks.
Sources said 27 children were admitted to Sadar Hospital and three others to an NGO run hospital Sunday.
NGO sources said 1,308 children affected by pneumonia and 559 others affected by diarrhoea took treatment in Chilmari and Sadar upazilas in last month. Thirteen of them died.
Another report from Chapainawabganj adds: Nine children died of pneumonia and over 350 others were affected in last month in the district.
Sadar hospital sources said 327 children affected by the disease were admitted to the hospital in the current month and nine of them died.
Resident physician of Sadar Hospital Dr Taj Uddin admitted the death of nine children, saying that pneumonia is spreading due to the biting cold.
