12 countries, EU condemn attack on Hero Alam

Twelve countries and the European Union on Wednesday condemned the attack on Dhaka-17 constituency candidate Ashraful Alam, popularly known as Hero Alam, during the election day.
The by-election took place on July 17.
Violence has no place in the democratic process, they said in a joint statement.
The joint statement was signed by the Dhaka-based Embassies/ High Commissions of Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and the Delegation of the European Union.
They also called for a full investigation and accountability for the perpetrators. Everyone involved in the upcoming elections should ensure that they are free, fair, and peaceful, the statement said.
