12 get death penalty for killing man in Kishoreganj

A Dhaka tribunal sentenced on Monday 12 people to death for killing a man in Kishoreganj in 2015, report agencies.
The condemned convicts are Mahabubur Rahman Bhuiya, Mozammel Haque Bhuiya, Afzal Bhuiya, Nayan Bhuiya, Bhulon Bhuiya, Ruhul Amin, Emdadul Haque, Shipon Mia, Sultana Akter, Delwar Hossain, Bidhan Sannashi and Nilufa Akter of Bajitpur upazila in Kishoreganj district.
Of them, Sultana, Selwar, Bidhan and Nilufa were tried in absentia. The tribunal also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each.
Besides, it sentenced two others -Tasnima Akter and Shamim alias Foysal bin Ruhul --to one year imprisonment each in the case.
According to the prosecution, Mobarak Hossain Bhuiya, an assistant of a lawyer of Dhaka Session Judge Court , was killed by the convicts following enmity over the ownership of a piece of land in Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj on October 22, 2015.
Later, victim's brother advocate Mozammel Hossain Bhuiya filed a case against 15 people with Bajitpur thana in this connection.
Makbul Hossain Mollah, investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge shseet against 15 people on January 2, 2017.
