12 get life for killing UP chairman

A divisional special tribunal here Wednesday sentenced 12 people, including three siblings, to life term imprisonment for killing Koya union parishad chairman Jamil Hossain Bachchu of Kushtia about five years ago. The tribunal also fined them Tk 25,000 each, in default, to suffer another six months in jail. Khulna Divisional Speedy Tribunal judge M Akhter Hossain handed down the verdict against the 12 accused and acquitted 23 others in the case. According to the case, Jamil Hossain, chairman of Koya Union Parishad in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district, was gunned down by miscreants on July 26 in 2009. The victim’s brother filed a murder case against ten people, according to UNB.
