12 held while being trafficked to Malaysia

Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel arrested 12 people from Naf River in Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday night while they were trying to go to Malaysia illegally. One suspected human trafficker – Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Nilaa village, was also arrested. Mohammad Mosa, Tekhnaf station commander of Coast Guard, said being tipped off an operation team of Coast Guard launched a drive in Jadimora in Naf River around 10:30pm and arrested the 12 who gathered there before setting off for Malaysia by a boat with the help of human trafficker Shafiqul without valid documents. The victims hail from different Upazilas of Bagura, Kishoreganj and Jessore districts, according to a news agency.
