12 juveniles receive UNDP awards

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sunday awarded 12 creative writers aged between 14 and 25 years for their writings on air pollution and climate change impact caused by the traditional brick making technology in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
GREEN Brick project of UNDP Bangladesh launched the writing competition in November last in which a total of 163 essays were submitted by the children and young writers from across the country.
Of the total, 12 young writers were selected by the jury board in 'Ka' and 'Kha' groups for their best write-ups and thoughts on air pollution caused by 150-year old traditional brick making technology in the country.
The theme for 'Ka' group was 'Brick Making and Environment Pollution in Bangladesh' and 'Kha' group was 'Citizens' Role in Mitigating Environmental Pollution in Brick Making'.
Noted novelists Ms Selina Hossen and Prof Syed Monjurul Islam, economist MM Akash, UNDP Deputy Country Director Robert Jukkam and Project Manager of Improving Kiln Efficiency in the Brick Making Industry (IKEBMI) Khondoker Neaz Rahman were present at the award giving ceremony at a city hotel Sunday.
