12 more die of dengue amid, 2,129 new cases
DSCC's two wards declared 'red zones'

The health authority on Friday registered 12 new deaths due to the mosquito-borne dengue fever, including 4 from the capital, Dhaka.
With the new deaths, the total casualties now stood at 790, including 547 from Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Meanwhile, as many as 2,129 new cases of hospitalization were also reported during the same period of time till 8:0 am Friday across the country, including 843 from Dhaka, according to DGHS daily update.
Meanwhile a UNB report says: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) wards 14 and 56 have been declared red zones.
The wards were declared red zones on the criteria of getting more than 10 dengue patients per week.
After verifying and reviewing the information of dengue patients received through various means including the list sent by the Department of Health, the phone number of the control room, 11 dengue patients were found in these wards from September 2 to September 8 of this month.
DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh will take part in the programme at 10:30am and 11:00am today to make people aware of the prevention of dengue through cleanliness activities in the red zones.
On this occasion, a day-long special cleanliness and extensive activities will be conducted in the two wards to eliminate the breeding places of Aedes mosquitoes.
In this programme, 950 sanitation workers will conduct special cleaning activities in the two wards.
Besides, 13 mosquito workers will take part in larvicide and adulticide activities in each ward in the morning and 13 in the afternoon.
Last month, wards 5, 22, 53 and 60 of DSCC were declared red zones. On August 26, DSCC mayor participated in public engagement activities in those wards.
FE report continues Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The ever worsening dengue situation showed no sign of improvement with the growing deaths and cases.
Furthermore, the health authorities also continued to report a growing number of new cases outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalization, 1,286 were reported from outside Dhaka.
The total dengue cases rose to 161,964. Of the total cases, 71,503 were from Dhaka, added DGHS.
A total of 9,891 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 4,016 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 151,283 patients made recovery and returned home, including 66,940 from Dhaka with a 93 per cent recovery rate. Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
