12-party urges govt to contain price hike

The leaders of 12-party alliance on Saturday urged the government to resign and hold national elections under a neutral caretaker government.
They also demanded to contain the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities considering the suffering of the low- income people during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
They also reiterated their demand for immediate release of detained opponent political leaders including BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
They made the observations at a rally near Bijoy Nagar Water Tank in the capital.
The leaders also accused the government of plundering public money in the name of development.
They also urged the people to remain united and force the government to resign for holding a free, fair, participatory and credible polls under a neutral caretaker government.
Bangladesh Kalyan Party Chairman Major General (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim said the present government will be compelled to accept our demand to form a neutral caretaker government for holding the next parliamentary polls.
Secretary general of Jatiya Party (Jafar) Ahsan Habib Lincon, chairman of National Democratic Party Kari Abu Taher, Prof Abdul Karim of Islami Oikya Jote, advocate Ajharul Islam of National Awami Party (NAP- Bhasani) and secretary general of Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Md Rafiqul Islam, among others, spoke at the rally.
