12 sentenced in Ctg to death, 8 to life term for murder

Twelve people were sentenced to death and eight to life term imprisonment by a court in Chittagong Tuesday in the sensational Jan-e-Alam murder case, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are Aiyub Ali, his son Zahirul Islam and brother Syed Ahmed, Kalimullah and his son Abdul Malek, M Yusuf and his son M Alamgir, Shamsul Islam, Nazimuddin and his brothers Abul Kashem, M Jasimuddin and Nasiruddin.
The lifers are Noor Jahan Begum, Shaheda Begum, mother of convicted Nazimuddin, and her daughter-in-law Shahina Akhter, Anwara Begum, wife of Aiyub Ali, Yasmin Begum and Razia Begum, daughters of M Yusuf, Taslima Begum, and Raju Begum.
All the convicts were tried in absentia. But Anwara Begum, Yasmin Begum and her sister Razia Begum surrendered to the court Tuesday. They were sent to jail after the pronouncement of the judgment.
