122 smugglers held last year

SATKHIRA, Jan 26 (UNB): Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized
different contraband items worth Tk 265 million from different border areas of the district last year.
BGB members also arrested 122 smugglers in this connection.
BGB 41 battalion sources said that they conducted several drives in Goga, Rudrapur, Bagachra, Chanduria, Hijoldi, Madra, Kakdanga, Toluigachha, Jhaudanga, Satani, Khushkhali, Gazipur, Bhomra, Ghona, Boikari, Vatslala, Devhata and Kolaroa border areas during the period.
The jawans seized contraband items like sari, cattle, cloth, silver, motorcycle, bicycle, phensidyl syrup, heroin, beer, hemp, firearms and other goods worth about Tk 250 million while being smuggled into the country from India.
BGB members also seized tufts of hair, fish, gas cylinder, leather and various other goods worth about Tk 3.3 million while being smuggled out to India.
Lt Col Enayet Karim, commander of 41 riffles battalion said they seized the contraband goods in 4,849 drives from the different border areas.
