Thirteen out of 71 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), picked up by law enforcers after a fierce clash on the Dhaka College campus last night, have been set free Wednesday, police said.
The police held 71 activists in an overnight raid at seven dormitories of the institution hot on the heels of the clash between two BCL factions that left at least 10 students injured.
During the raid, police seized five machetes, 10 iron rods and huge number of wooden sticks from the halls, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market Police Station Kamrul Islam said.
"We released the 13 as they were found innocent," the OC said and added 57 of the detainees were sent to court after they were shown arrested under section 151. He also said they were preparing to file an arms case against Saiful Islam, a fourth-year student of political science, as they found 52 rounds of bullet from his possession.
