13 get life for killing five

MYMENSINGH, Feb 25: A court here on Wednesday sentenced 13 people to life term imprisonment and two others to 10 years in jail in a case filed for murdering five members of a family in Haluaghat upazila of the district 18 years ago. Those who were sentenced to life term are Manik, Sirajul, Romzan, Abu Taher, Abdus Sattar, Barek, Azizul, Fazlul Karim, Sofur Uddin, Nur Mohammad, Kashem, Haque Mian and Abul Khayer. The lifers were also fined Tk 20,000 each. They will face six months' rigorous imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine. Judge of Mymensingh Special Judge Court Dr Amir Uddin gave the verdict. — UNB
