13 named for Ekushey Padak-2011

Thirteen eminent personalities have been awarded Ekushey Padak-2011 in recognition of their contribution to different fields. "Each recipient will get Tk 0.1 million, a gold-medal weighing three tolas and a citation," said an official announcement. The recipients are: Shawkat Ali (posthumous), Mosharef Uddin Ahmed (posthumous) and Amanul Haq for language movement; Ustad Akther Sadmani (posthumous) in arts; and Abdul Haq Chowdhury (posthumous) in research. They also include Baul Karim Shah and Josna Biswas in arts; Nurjahan Begum in journalism; Al-Haj Md Abul Hashem, Md Hares Uddin (Polan Sarker) and Mohammad Delwar Hossain in social service; Shaheed Qadri and Abdul Haq in language and literature. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over Ekushey Padak to the recipients at Osmani Memorial auditorium on February 20. — UNB
