13 pirates held with firearms in Pabna

PABNA, Dec 23: Detective branch (DB) of police detained 13 accused pirates from a boat of the mighty river Padma on Monday evening when they were holding a secret meeting. Law enforcing agency also seized firearms and sharp weapons from their possession.
The arrestees Mohoram Ali, 22, Delwar Hossain, 20, Hazrat Ali, 50, Shahin Mollah, 22, Khokon Ali, 20, Ripon Khan, 28, Aku Pramanik, 50, Sajahan Ali, 30, Motaleb Hossain Choyan, 28, Sujon Ali, 24, Milon Uddin Sheikh, 40, Hasmat Ali, 42 and Sujon Hossain, 40 hailed from different villages of Pabna and Kushtia district were sent to jail on Tuesday.
Officer-in-charge of Pabna DB police Kazi Haniful Islam said acting on a tip off a team of Pabna DB police raided Charvobanipur area of the river Padma in Sujanagar Upazila under the district at about 5.30pm on Monday.
Police seized a revolver, two sharp weapons, an engine boat used for pirating from their possession, the OC said adding that two separate cases were filed with Sujanagar police station.
