Friday, 3 October 2014
Dhaka City Corporation will engage around 13,000 cleaning staffs to keep the capital clean during Eid-ul-Azha festival.
This large number of cleaning staff will work round the clock for 48 hours. Apart from that, the two city corporations--North and South---will distribute special poly bags at cow haats and big residential complexes.
Every year during the festival of Eid-ul-Azha, waste from sacrificed animals are piled up along the neighbourhood alleys in Dhaka. Overpowering stench of rotten waste and clotted blood hangs in the Dhaka air for a prolonged period.
Every year DCC employs all its resources to keep Dhaka waste-free during the festive season.
Chief waste management officer of DCC (North) Capt Bipon Kumar Saha told bdnews24.com,"This year we will assign 7,500 staffs including our 2,700 own staffs to clean Dhaka on the Eid day. In addition to our own 170 vehicles, dump truck, prime mover, pay loader and long trailer will be used to clean up Dhaka city. We will hire 6 dump trucks and 1 prime mover."
He also said they would use Savlon and bleaching powder to kill germs at waste disposal points.
