135 criminal nabbed in DMP-led 24hr spl drive

As law-and-order situation in the capital had shown signs of further deterioration, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) launched a special operation from Thursday midnight to scotch the crimes of all categories, reports UNB.
DMP sources said the police arrested 135 criminals, including four listed terrorists, 11 muggers and 40 drug traders during the special drive in the capital in the last 24 hours ending at 6:00am Saturday.
The DMP said during the first quarter of this year, the murder figure rose to 82 compared to 64 murders committed during the same period of last year.
The incidents of robbery registered with the police stations show that the incidence of this crime has taken a sharp upturn -- 37 of the crime had been committed as against 17 in the same period of last year.
