135 sacks of fake fertiliser seized, shop sealed off

A mobile court in Natore on Friday seized 135 sacks of fake Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertiliser from a shop at Walia Bazar at Lalpur upazila on Friday. The court also fined the owner of the shop, Moazzem Hossain, Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer three months’ jail. Police said one Matin Sardar of Walia Centre Para village bought some TSP fertiliser from the shop of Moazzem in the morning. When he spread the fertiliser in his crop field, he found something fishy. Later he informed the matter to local agriculture officer Jakaria who identified the fertiliser to be fake after testing. When the local farmers came to know about the incident, they laid a siege to the fertiliser shop. Being informed, a mobile court led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Amirul Islam, also an executive magistrate, rushed in and seized 135 sacks of fake fertiliser from the shop and slapped a fine of Tk 50,000 on its owner. The court also sealed off the shop, according to UNB.
