14-party to support one contestant in each area

The Awami League-led 14-party alliance will extend support to single mayoral and councillor candidates in the ensuing city corporation polls. Support of the leader of the 14-party alliance Sheikh Hasina will be final in this regard, reports BSS.
Spokesman of the 14-party alliance and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim disclosed this at a press briefing, after a meeting of the alliance at the political office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city on Tuesday.
He said, "The 14-party alliance shall remain together in the field of polls and movement as well. We have talked about the city corporation polls and talks would continue. The forces loyal to the War of Liberation and those who have taken stance against the conspiracies of BNP-Jamaat combine would remain united always. We will extend support to one candidate in each area. We will take part in the campaign for the candidates who would get support of the leader of the 14-party alliance."
In reply to a question, Workers' Party president and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said, "There would be a level-playing field for all in the polls. But, the level- playing field is not meant for those terrorists. The administration will take action in accordance with the laws of the land."
At the meeting, the 14-party alliance condemned the killing of blogger Washiqur Rahman and demanded immediate arrest of his killers.
The 14-party alliance adopted a resolution to organise public rallies at Palashbari in Gaibandha district today (April 1) and later at Satkhira in protest against the anarchy let loose by BNP-Jamaat combine.
