14 pirates held near Sundarbans

Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel in a drive arrested 14 alleged pirates along with hand bombs and sharp weapons from Gagramari and Pashwemari areas in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district on Thursday. The identity of the arrestees could not be known immediately. Atiqur Rahman, operation officer of the Coast Guard, said acting on secret information, they conducted a drive in Gagramari and Pashwemari near Sundarbans and arrested 14 pirates when they were going to the areas to take possession of a shrimp enclosure around 4:00 am. The Coast Guard also recovered five hand bombs, five machetes, two knives and one spear from the arrestees’ possession. A case was filed, according to UNB.
