Wednesday, 27 August 2008

Some 145 corrupt individuals, who have applied to the Truth and Accountability Commission (TAC) for clemency through National Coordination Committee (NCC) on serious crime and corruption, are officials and employees of Titas Gas and Dhaka Electricity Supply Authority (DESA), reports UNB.

According to sources, among the 145 persons, 140 are from Titas Gas and five are from DESA.

Upon application from the concerned individuals, the NCC sent a list of 145 people to the TAC Monday.

The list includes staff like meter readers to officials like superintending engineers, the sources said.

The TAC scrutinised Tuesday the applications to make sure the applicants were eligible to be heard by the Commission. The Commission, after a meeting, has issued orders to make arrangements so that the applicants could fill up prescribed forms formally seeking clemency in return for their ill-gotten wealth.

With the NCC list of 145 corrupt persons, the number of applications for clemency rose to 184. Earlier, the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) sent two lists containing 35 persons while four persons applied directly to the TAC.
