14th DITF-'09 begins Jan 1

The month-long 14th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2009 will begin from January 1, 2009 as the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has nearly completed its preparation for holding this annual event.
Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed is expected to open this year's fair at the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, officials of EBP said Wednesday.
"We're prepared for the fair and hopefully, we would be able to kick off the fair as per the schedule of DITF," said vice-chairman of EPB Mir Md. Shahabullah.
The DITF is jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and EPB and allocation of stalls and pavilions for the DITF-2009 have already been allocated, he said.
The fair will showcase a wide range of Bangladeshi products, including readymade garments, world class ceramic and melamine wares, jute and jute products, leather and leather goods, handicrafts, carpets, footwear, software, frozen foods, plastic goods, agricultural commodities, electrical and electronic goods and jewelry.
The fair would help foreign investors and buyers to create new business opportunities in Bangladesh and also establish direct and fruitful business contacts with their Bangladeshi counterparts, EPB sources said.
Around 12 countries - India, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Tarki, USA, China, Germany and United Arab Emirates (UAE) will participate in this year's fair, Khalilur Rahman, director general-1 of EPB said.
