15 back home after languishing in Indian jail

Saturday, 27 September 2014

At least 15 Bangladeshi nationals, including two children, returned home from India on Friday night after languishing in a jail there for two-and-half-year. India’s Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to the Bangladeshi authorities through Benapole check-post around 10pm. All of them hail from different Upazilas of Narail, Bagerhat and Satkhira districts. Nayek Subedar Gias Uddin, in-charge of Benapole check post of BGB-26, said all the returnees had gone to Kolkata illegally in search of jobs two-and-half-year ago. Later, they were sent to Kolkata jail after Indian police arrested them. Frequent contacts between the home ministries of India and Bangladesh made it possible to arrange their return to Bangladesh, sources said, according to UNB.
