15 businesses fined for violating law

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined 15 businesses in Dhaka, Gazipur and Barishal for violating relevant provisions of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.
Three separate teams of DNCRP realised the fine of Tk 80,000 from them for different offences including absence of maximum retail price (MRP) on packets, manufacturing of food items in unhealthy environment and selling of date barred products.
Three officials of DNCRP under the commerce ministry led the market monitoring drives, said a press release of the directorate.
In Motijheel area of the capital, Samia Hotel was fined of Tk 10,000, Haji Fast Food Tk 5,000, Mina Hotel Tk 2,000, Rajbhog Sweets Tk 8,000, Seba Bakery Tk 24,000 and Chand Tara Hotel & Restaurant Tk 10,000.
Four vendors at the Rajendrapur and Banglabazar areas in Gazipur were fined Tk 14,000, and five others in Boisherhat and Natulsnabad areas of Barishal Sadar were fined Tk 7,000.
Md Masum Arefin, assistant director at the directorate's head office, Rozina Sultana, assistant director, Gazipur district office and Md Serimuzzaman, assistant director at the Barisal district office, led the drives in their respective areas.
Officials of the government agencies concerned, including police, provided necessary assistance in the market monitoring.
