15 die, 11 hurt in road crashes in 6 dists

At least 15 people, including six women, were killed and 11 others injured in road accidents in Sunamganj, Tangail, Barguna, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria and Dinajpur districts on Wednesday. In Chittagong, three people were killed and six others injured when a Kathgarah-bound bus from Bahaddarhat area overturned after hitting some pedestrians at Dewanhat Bridge in the port city around 9:15am. The deceased were identified as Nayeem, 22, Joynal Abedin, 55, and Mizan, 20. The injured people were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. In Brahmanbaria, three women were killed when a bus knocked down them at Islamabad on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila. The deceased were identified as Samsunnahar, 42, wife of Basir Mia, Amiza, 60, wife of Abdul Jalil of Islamabad village, and Asia, 45, wife of Moti Mia of Mahaldar village of Sarail.
Officer-in charge of Sarial Police Station Ali Arshad said the Sylhet-bound bus of ‘Ena Paribahan’ hit the three women while they were standing near the road around 1.15pm as its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving them dead on the spot.
In Tangail, two people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a human hauler (Leguna) at Kandila in Sadar upazila in the morning. The deceased were identified as Bulbul, 40, a resident of Bogra district, and Sudeb Ghatak, 35, a resident of Gopalpur upazila of Tangail district. Sergeant of Elenga highway police camp Kamruzzaman Raj said the Dhaka-bound ‘Khalek Enterprise’ bus collided with a Leguna around 9:30am, leaving two people dead on the spot and five others injured. The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
In Barguna, two people, including a college student, were killed and another one was injured when a pick-up-van hit a motorbike on Amtali-Patuakhali road at East Chunakhali in Amtali upazila. The deceased were identified as Ujjal Lal Sheel, 25, a master’s student of Dhaka College and Manior Shikdar, 35. Police said the accident took in the morning when a pick-up van hit the motorbike carrying three people while they were going to Patuakhali, leaving two dead on the spot. Injured Alamin was rushed to Patuakhali General Hospital.
In Dinajpur, a motorcyclist was killed as a human-hauler crashed into his bike at Farokkabad in Birol upazila in the morning. The deceased was identified as Sadequl Islam, 40, son of Asir Uddin hailing from Darbarpur village in the upazila.
In Sunamganj, four people were killed as a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Hasnabad on Sylhet-Chhatak highway in Chhatak upazila in the morning. Among the deceased two were identified as Muhibur Rahman, 35, a member of Bangladesh Air Force, hailing from Bhojona village of Doura Bazar in the upazila and Hori, 45, hailing from Jamalpur district. Officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station Ashok Suja Mamun said the Chhatak-bound truck smashed the three-wheeler around 8:00am, leaving its four passengers dead on the spot, according to a news agency.
