15 die in road accidents

At least 15 people have died and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sirajganj, Moulvibazar, Rangpur and Natore districts from Friday morning to night. In Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka, four people were killed and 20 others injured as ‘Saudia Paribahan’ bus collided head-on with a brick-laden truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Joypura Bus Stand area of the upazila around 2:00am. The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam, 21, an army man, Shamshur Raman, 45, Obaidur Rahman, 70, and an unidentified woman. Officer-in-Charge of Dhamrai Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Jalil confirmed the incident. In Sirajganj, four people were killed and three others injured as a microbus ran over a human hauler in Chairman Market area on Hatikumrul-Banpara highway. The deceased were identified as China Khatun, 26, daughter of Noba Fakir of Salanga Thana, her father-in-law Rajab Ali, 50, Abdul Hamid, 65, of Syedganti village in Kamarkhand Upazila and his daughter Rehana Khatun Eti, 22. In Moulvibazar, three people were killed and three others injured as a private car, returning from the mazaar (shrine) of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet city, hit a roadside tree in Kakiyabazar area under Srimangal upazila as its driver lost control over the steering. The deceased were identified as Raju Ahmed, 35, Sabuj Mian, 40, Arif Hossain, 28. All hailed from Srimangal upazila. In Rangpur, two people were killed as a bus ran over a motorcycle on Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Bijoler Ghanti area under Kaunia upazila. The deceased were identified as Abdul Khalek, 35, of Haragachh Pouro area and Mominul Islam, 55, of Sarai Bazar area. In Natore, two people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Sayedmore area of Sadar upazila and Khejurtala area of Boraigram upazila. The deceased were identified as Abdul Latif Mridha, 50, messenger of UCBL in Rajshahi and Ashraful Islam, 35, of Puradah upazila of Chuadanga district. The District Fire Service and Civil Defense officer Abdur Rauf confirmed the incident, according to a news agency.
