CHITTAGONG, May 4: At least 15 people have been injured, 10 houses set on fire and seven ransacked in overnight clashes over controlling of government 'khas' land at Jungle Selimpur in Chittagong Tuesday.
Four of the injured have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital under police custody. They are Jotsna Begum (35), Firoza Begum (50), Abul Kashem (50) and Salauddin (18). Another Sanowara Begum is now in police lock-up, Bayezid police said.
Police said the clashes erupted at 9.00pm Monday, as around 40 members of 'Akkas Bahini' attacked and set fire on the houses of their opponents in a bid to grab the 'khas' land. Then both the groups resorted to clashes Tuesday morning.
Police rushed to the scene and arrested five of the members of 'Akkas Bahini'. Two cases have been filed with Bayezid and Sitakunda police stations in this connection.
