FE Report
A group of ruling party activists physically assaulted Friday the protesting aspirants seeking second chance for Dhaka University (DU) admission test, sources confirmed.
According to them, a group of 25-30 unruly activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) led by its Bangabadhu Hall unit president Darus Salam Shakil attacked the demonstrating students leaving many protesters injured.
Parvez, a protesting student of Dhaka College, alleged that the group launched the attack on the peaceful demonstrators in presence of police, leaving around 15 protesters including females injured.
Azizul Islam, an injured student who passed the HSC exam from the Dhaka College was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said. However, the victim was later released after giving first aid.
When contacted, BCL leader Mr Shakil rejecting the allegation said that he knows nothing about the attack, claiming that he was sleeping at that moment at the dormitory.
Earlier in the morning, the protesting students gathered in front of Raju Bhaskarja on the university campus at about 10am as per their scheduled programme.
The protesting students who termed themselves ‘second timer’ are on street movement since October 14, 2014, following the university’s decision not to allow 2nd time admission test from the next academic calendar.
However, the demonstrators continued their sit-in protest in front of the Raju Bhaskarja of the university until 4.00pm and they have announced continuous sit-in programme at the same place until their single- point demand is met.
“We will gather at the same place tomorrow (Saturday) again,” the protesting students said. In addition, they also will submit a memorandum to the President Md Abdul Hamid after getting the permission.
Mr Parvez said apart from their sit-in-programme, they also have launched signature collection campaign across the country to mobilise public opinion regarding the issue.
