15 Jamaat men hurt in Pabna clash, 37 held

PABNA, Sep 17: At least 15 Jamaat-Shibir men were injured when a procession brought out by them came under attack from police, Jubo League and Chhatra League men Wednesday.
Eyewitness and locals said when a Jamaat procession reached Indrapotti (Dowel Chattar) then police, Jubo League and Chhatra League men jointly attacked them with firearms, iron rod and sharp weapons, leaving at least 15 Jamaat-Shibir men injured.
Police fired teargas to disperse the procession at around 2.00pm and detained 12 Jamaat-Shibir men from the procession.
Earlier, the law enforcement agencies arrested 25 Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas of the district Wednesday morning for avoiding untoward incident. Meanwhile, BGB have been deployed in Pabna from early Wednesday to keep the law and order situation under control.
Pabna police superintendent Miraz Uddin Ahmed said five platoons of BGB have been deployed here in Pabna to avoid any untoward incident. Law enforcement agencies kept on alert in important places of the district, he added.
