FE REPORT | Saturday, 23 November 2024

The e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), an organisation representing entrepreneurs in the digital commerce sector, has set up a 15-member support committee to assist the current administrator in overseeing the leadership election.
The committee comprises London Bazar BD CEO Abdus Salam, BD Exclusive CEO Muhammad Ismail Hussain, ePaikar Extensive Chairman Sheikh Shafayat Hossain, RTS Enterprise Managing Director Zeeshan Kingshuk Huq, TechSolution Managing Director Naznin Nahar, BDSP IT Managing Director Md Zakir Hossain, Ribas Media Managing Director Fahmidul Islam Shantonu, Mechanical Limited Co-Founder Biplab Chandra Biswas, Infolady Social Enterprise CEO Ananya Raihan, Online Marketing Service Founder Mahadi Hasan, Brand Book CEO Ruhul Karim, Kholabazar International Managing Director GM Farooq Hossain, Ribana Founder Md Wahiduzzaman, Inception Technologies Managing Director Mohammad Emran, and Azia owner Shahid Hussain Shamim.
The Central Digital Commerce Cell of the Ministry of Commerce recently issued an office order in this regard.
As per sub-section (2)(a) of section 18 of the Trade Organisations Act 2022, the support committee will assist in key administrative tasks, including updating e-CAB's membership list. It will be dissolved 15 days before the election, and the members will not receive any financial benefits or allowances.
The office order was signed by e-CAB Administrator Md Sayed Ali, who is also the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Commerce.
e-CAB has faced significant changes in its leadership. On August 13, its former president Shomi Kaiser resigned following a student-led uprising that ousted the Awami League government.
Shortly afterwards, the entire board of directors also stepped down. Sayed was then appointed as the organisation's administrator on September 10.
Shomi was arrested in Dhaka's Uttara on November 6 in connection with an attempted murder case.
e-CAB was founded in 2014 with 53 members and marked its 10th anniversary on November 8 this year. The organisation now boasts approximately 2,800 members.
