15-month-old girl drowns in Dinajpur pond

DINAJPUR, Aug 24 (UNB): A 15-month-old girl drowned in a pond in the Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Vanu Rani Roy, daughter of Dharma Narayan Roy, from the Jharbari Devdarupara area of the Shatagram Union.
Sub-inspector Akhtaruzzaman of Birganj Police Station confirmed the matter.
Local residents reported that the toddler had been missing since Saturday morning. Later that day, her family found her body in a pond near their home.
Omar Ali, a member of the Union Parishad from Ward 7 of Shatagram Union, stated that the child's parents were occupied with household chores when the incident happened. It is believed that Vanu wandered away unnoticed and drowned in the pond.
The body was handed over to the family after the initial investigation. An unnatural death has been registered at the police station, added the SI.
