15 to suffer jail terms for Ctg triple murder

CHITTAGONG, Jan 24: As many as 15 persons including a union parishad chairman have been awarded imprisonment for different terms in a triple murder case under Satkania police station of the district.
The case was filed by the family members of the victims who were killed by armed robbers at their village home at Kanchana village in 1992. Md Meah,his wife Sajeda Khatun and his brother Siddiq Meah were killed. The robbers shot them to death as the house members tried to resist.
Special Judge of a tribunal in Chittagong Syeda Hosne Ara gave the verdict today. Four accused were given life imprisonment, 10 others will suffer six years in jail and one to suffer 10 years, said public prosecutor of the court Md Jahangir Alam.
Incumbent chairman of the Kanchana Union Parishad under Satkania Upazila of the district will suffer six years in jail. He is a member of the Satkania Upazila Awami League committee.
Meanwhile, a police officer hanged himself in city's Dampara Police Line. The body of the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kalenjoy Chakma (38) was recovered by fellow policemen after 10.00pm yesterday.
Officer- in -charge of Khulsi police station Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin said ASI Kalenjoy was an officer at the arms section of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan on the ground floor of the Habildar quarters in the police line.
