15-yr validity for CNGs
Tuesday, 27 May 2014
The government has extended the validity of CNG autorickshaws to 15 years from 11, with conditions, following a recommendation of BUET.
Roads Division issued a circular to this end Monday, amid an ongoing strike by autorickshaw owners to extend the economy lives of the vehicles.
The division put six conditions on extending the life of the rental three-wheelers, including a complete engine overhaul, within this year.
Autorickshaw owners have denounced the circular and will continue their strike.
“The circular doesn’t say directly that we can extend the validity of our vehicles. We will continue our movement,” Barkatullah Bhulu, the convener of the owners’ association, said in the evening, according to a news agency.
