150 BNP men sued over Bakshibazar clash

Two cases have been filed against 150 leaders and workers of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal in connection with Wednesday’s clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists in Bakshibazar in Old Dhaka. Former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Azizul Bari Helal and its incumbent president Rajib Ahsan have been named as accused in a case. Sub-inspector Saheb Ali of Nilkhet police camp filed a case on Wednesday night with Shahbagh Police Station against 23 identified and some 50-60 unidentified JCD and Jubo Dal men for their alleged involvement in the ‘attempt to murder Awami League leader Chhabi Bishaws (an MP elected from Netrakona-1) and also in arson, vandalism and attack on the law enforcers. In another case filed with Chawkbazar Police Station by its sub-inspector Delwar Hossain, some 70 identified and another 30-40 unnamed BNP men were made accused for allegedly assaulting police. The clash, that took placed ahead of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in a makeshift court in Alia Madrasa premises near Dhaka Central Jail, left 29 other people, including cops, injured, according to a news agency.
