150 killed across country in Feb: Democracywatch

A total of 150 people were killed in February across the country due to various reasons like terrorist attack, robbery, land disputes, dowry, rape and stalking, according to the Democracywatch monthly report, reports UNB. The report revealed that among the victims, 97 were men, 38 women and 15 children. A total of 11 women and one child were killed, and seven women were severely tortured for dowry in some 18 different incidents. The deceased are Shantana Rani (20, Rangpur), Naima (21), Nazma Begum (22) and her 1 and half months old son Raju, Sabina (Rajshahi), Malina Begum (25, Faridpur), Kohinur Begum (25, Rajshahi), Sabina Yasmin (Sherpur), Sekela Begum (23, Narail), Parul Begum (22, Barishal), Selina Begum (27, Comilla) and Hamida Begum from Jamalpur. The report said 19 women were raped and among them, one was killed during February. The deceased is Rasheda (Sherpur). The other victims are from Narayanganj, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Nilphamari, Joypurhat, Rupganj, Faridpur, Noakhali, Narail, Natore, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria and Lakshmipur. A total of 34 stalking incidents reportedly occurred in the country in February. Some 32 people committed suicide due to various reasons including mental pressure, Eve-teasing and rape, dowry and family feud, the report said. Among them, 25 were women and 7 were men. The incidents occurred in Dhaka, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Patuakhali, Gazipur, Barishal, Rajshahi, Shariatpur, Chapainawabganj, Sylhet, Bogra, Khulna and Kushtia. Bifola Akhter (13, Kishoreganj), Shirafina Maradi, (14, Rajshahi), Rikta Khatun (14, Khulna), Janntunnesa Shima (18, Rajshahi) and Ismat Ara (13, Kurigram) committed suicide for being raped. Ayesha Khatun (35), Sharmin Sultana (class 8, Gazipur) for stalking and Asma Begum (25, Barishal) committed suicide for dowry.
