150,000 abandoned Filipino-Japanese children in Philippines

MANILA, Sept 9 (XINHUA): There are over 150,000 abandoned Filipino-Japanese children the Philippines, as the fathers of these children refuse to recognise them, reported local Japanese newspaper The Daily Manila Shimbun Sunday.
The daily quoted Kenshi Nishida, legal counsel for Basiin Kokuseki Recovery Center which assists Filipino-Japanese children in gaining recognition from their Japanese fathers, as saying that there is a growing number of Filipino-Japanese children who have been neglected by their Japanese fathers.
"I do not think such a situation is any longer tolerable," Nishida was quoted as saying by the daily at the first convention for Filipno-japanese children, also known as Shin (new) Nikkei-Jin (Japanese-Filipino) who were born in the Philippines by Japanese men and Filipina women after World War II.
The convention was attended by some 150 Filipino-Japanese children accompanied by their mothers or guardians as well as three Japanese senators and a Filipino senator, according to the report.
