152,674 litres of edible oil seized in 4 districts
DNCRP estimates traders stockpile 40,000 tonnes

Law enforcers have seized 152,674 litres of edible oil illegally stored in warehouses in Kushtia, Pabna, Gazipur and Rajshahi districts on Tuesday, report agencies.
Earlier in the week authorities in Dhaka and Chattogram seized nearly 50,000 litres of soybean and palm oil stashed in stores and the home of a trader.
The traders bought the products that had been imported at lower prices before the hike, but they were selling it at the new rate.
According to estimates by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), traders have stockpiled 40,000 tonnes of soybean oil in the space of 10 days to make extra profits.
In Rajshahi, Police have seized 92,616 litres of soybean oil during a raid on a market in Rajshahi's Puthia Upazila as a shortage of cooking oil continued to plague consumers amid a price hike. The law enforcers searched five warehouses at Baneshwar Bazar and found the oil stored in 454 drums on Tuesday, said Ifte Khayer Alam, an additional superintendent of police.
Report from Kushtia said, a team of DNCRP raided a shop named M/s Food Products in the town and seized 40,000 litres of edible oil.
It also fined the shop owners Tk 30,000.
Besides, the DNCRP team also fined MA Store Tk 1000 and Sabuj Sathi Store Tk 6,000 for selling edible oil at a high price.
In Pabna, another DNCRP team seized 18000 litres of edible oil from a warehouse of Shyamal Bazar Store and fined its owner Shyamal Datta Pal Tk 20,000 in Ishwardi upazila of the district in the morning.
Meanwhile, in Gazipur, a team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) seized 2,058 litres of soyben oil from a warehouse at Board Bazar in Gazipur city on Tuesday.
The team led by its assistant directors Mahbubur Rahman and Abdul Jabbar, raided the warehouse of M/s Monir Traders in Board Bazar area and seized the edible oil.
Later, they also fined Monir Hossain, owner of the warehouse, Tk 200,000 for hoarding edible oil.
The seized oil was sold at Tk 560 per five litres in the local market with the help of law enforcers.
