Wednesday, 7 May 2014
The 153rd birth anniversary of great poet Rabindranath Tagore will be observed Thursday.
The government has chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.
This year’s theme of the birth anniversary is ‘Rabindranath and Bangladesh’.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the eve of the day, according to a news agency.
The main programme will be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 11 am where Finance Minister AMA Muhith will be present as the chief guest.
On the day (Thursday) at 7 pm, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organize a cultural programme at its premises.
The birth anniversary programme will also be celebrated at the places endowed with Tagore’s memory — at Sheliadah of Kushtia, Shahzadpur in Sirajganj, Patisar in Naogaon and Dakshindihi in Khulna — under the management of the local administration. A 3-day programme began at Sheliadah Kuthibari in Kushtia Wednesday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
