Reserved seats for women

1549 collect AL's nomination forms

As many as 1549 women have collected nomination forms of the ruling Awami League (AL) for contesting the elections to reserved seats (women) in 12th Jatiya Sangsad, reports BSS.
The party sold forms amounting to about Tk 77 million (Tk 7,74,50,000).
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader disclosed the information at a press conference at the party's Bangabandhu Avenue central office in the city after the deadline for submission of nomination papers ended at 4:00 pm on Thursday.
AL joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organising secretary BM Mozammel Haque, office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were present.
Earlier, the AL began its form selling programme on Tuesday and continued until 4:00 pm on Thursday.
On the last day, 217 women collected forms.
The parliament has 50 reserved seats. Sixty two independent lawmakers of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad bestowed the responsibility of electing parliament members in reserved seats upon Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
