16 gates of Kaptai dam opened

Monday, 26 August 2024

CHATTOGRAM Aug 25: Authorities on Sunday morning opened all 16 spillway gates of the Kaptai Hydropower Plant as water levels in the lake had risen above the danger level due to heavy rains and downpours from the hills.
Sources reported that the dam's 16 spillways were opened by 6 inches around 8:30 am on Sunday morning.
The release of water through these gates is expected to discharge approximately 9,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water. Depending on how the situation unfolds, the plant may increase the gate openings to effectively manage the lake's water levels.
At 7 am on Sunday, the water level of Kaptai Lake was recorded at 108.27 MSL (Mean Sea Level), with a capacity of 109 MSL.
