16 gold bars seized at Shah Amanat: 1 held

Customs officials seized 16 gold bars, weighing 1.866 kilograms, at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport in Chittagong on Wednesday morning. The arrestee was identified as Azizul Monir Mahfuz, 35, a resident of Samitir Hat village in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong district. Mashiur Rahman Mandal, assistant commissioner (Customs) at the airport, said a flight of Bangladesh Biman ‘BG046’ from Dubai landed at the airport around 10:30am. Acting on secret information, a team of customs officials searched the body of Mahfuz, who arrived at the airport by the Biman flight, and recovered the gold bars from his body and the soles of his shoes around 10:45am. The market value of the recovered gold will be Tk 8 million, according to UNB.
