16, including cops, RO hurt in Hatiya road crash

NOAKHALI, Apr 23 (UNB): Sixteen people, including five cops and a returning officer (RO), were seriously injured in a road crash Saturday evening.
The mishap took place at Link road at Oskhali at 6:30pm, when the victims were returning to Hatiya town from Char King union parishad with ballot boxes after poll duty by a human hauler.
The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch injuring RO Tapan Chowdhury (50), polling officer Abul Kalam (48), police constables Majnu Mian (45), Dilip Kumar Das (42), Tapan Debnath (35), Majnu Chowdhury (40) and Sadek Mian (42), Ansar members Abul Kalam (52) and Nur Nahar Begum, (25), Salma Begum (30), Selina Begum (48), Roma Rani (50), Swapna Begum (30), Anwar Hossain (32), Nazmul Hossain (27) and Abdur Rahman (29).
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Hatiya Hospital.
