16 killed in Sirajganj road accident

Sixteen people were killed in a road accident in Sirajganj Sadar upazila near Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge on Sunday morning. Police and locals said at least 16 people were killed and 60 others injured as two speeding buses collided on the highway in Mulibari level crossing area under Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station around 5:00am. Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Thana officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin said a Syedpur-bound bus from Chittagong collided head on with a Dhaka-bound bus from north Bengal in Mulibari, leaving a dozen people, including drivers of the two buses, dead on the spot and over 60 others injured. Four of the injured were pronounced dead by doctors after they were rescued and whisked off to a Sirajganj hospital. Identities of the deceased could not be known, according to a news agency.
